The Project Overview:

DSG’s 7th annual industry study continues to evolve to keep pace with new developments and trends in the retirement income market. The study includes mapping the variable payout annuity "universe" and examining alternate/emerging income products and solutions such as GLBs, deferred paid-up annuities and longevity insurance. The study will focus on market size, product design, marketing and distribution, and future trends. In addition, DSG will include findings from a series of interviews with key Executives selected from companies who are active in the retirement income market.

For companies who are looking to capture market share in the retirement income market, this study will provide updated information on the current state of the Variable Payout Annuity industry (with a particular focus on Immediate Variable Annuities [IVA’s] and "IVA Substitutes"), the competitive situation, and relevant trends, including alternative income payout methods.

Project Deliverables:

The objective of the study is to help participating companies determine the state and direction of the variable payout annuity market and "benchmark" themselves against their competition. The survey and the interviews contain a series of questions which are segmented depending on the type of products offered.

Information from individual respondent companies is kept strictly confidential. The survey findings will consolidate the answers from respondents and publish the information on an aggregate basis.

Comparisons with findings from DSG’s previous surveys and studies on this topic as well as the outlook for immediate variable annuities and annuitization based in large part on the interviews and DSG’s discussions with industry leaders will also be included in the Study Results.
