6th Annual Retirement Income Products Study

The Project Overview:

DSG’s 6th annual industry study mapped the Immediate Variable Annuity (IVA) and variable payout annuity "universe," with a focus on market size, product design, marketing and distribution, and future trends. In addition, DSG included findings from a select series of interviews with Executives drawn from companies who are active in the retirement income market and variable pay out annuity business.

For companies who are looking to capture market share in the retirement income market, this industry study will provide updated information on the current state of the Variable Payout Annuity industry (with a particular focus on Immediate Variable Annuities [IVA’s] and "IVA Substitutes"), the competitive situation, and relevant trends, including suitability and alternative income payout methods such as GLB’s.

Project Deliverables:

The study will help subscribing companies determine the state and direction of the variable payout annuity market and "benchmark" themselves against their competition. The survey and the interviews contained a series of questions which were segmented depending on the type of products offered.

Information from individual respondent companies is kept strictly confidential. The Retirement Income Products Study consolidates the answers from respondents and the information is published on an aggregate basis.

Where applicable, a comparison with findings from DSG’s previous surveys and studies on this topic are included with the results along with the outlook for immediate variable annuities and annuitization, based in large part on the interviews and DSG’s discussions with industry leaders.
